Inside My Soft Life May: What I’m Reading, Sipping & Wearing Right Now
There’s something about May that makes the world feel like it’s waking up again—porch mornings feel softer, evenings stretch just long enough to sip something slowly, and the breeze carries that coastal warmth I’ve been craving since February. This is the time of year when my soft life routines really shine—when sundresses come back into rotation, and when everything from my drinks to my books feels just a little more romantic.
I’ve also noticed how May makes everything feel like an invitation: to take longer walks, plan dinners outside, and say yes to little moments that might’ve felt like a luxury just a few months ago. I don’t need a milestone to gather my girls anymore—we’re hosting for the sake of it now. Because why not make bruschetta look like a ladybug and drink azaleas during Masters weekend? May is for whimsy. For no-agenda joy. For hosting barefoot.
Here’s what I’m loving right now at the Coastal Club:
What I’m Reading
Funny Story by Emily Henry – This is the book I didn’t know I needed. It’s sweet, sharp, and full of coastal-summer energy. The characters feel like people I’d want at my table (or maybe gossiping across it), and it’s the perfect balance of light and heartfelt.
Bonus: I’ve also been flipping through Island Whimsy — a coastal home inspiration book that feels like someone bottled the vibe of Cape May porches and Savannah gardens and made it coffee table-worthy.
What I’m Sipping
Martini of the Month: A cucumber-lime gin martini — crisp, refreshing, and a little cheeky. It tastes like sunshine with a salty breeze.
Non-alcoholic favorite: A sparkling hibiscus tea over ice with mint from my garden. It’s my afternoon porch sip while I catch up on texts and unwind.
Still obsessing over: The ladybug-shaped bruschetta from our garden party a few weeks ago. I haven’t stopped thinking about the intentionality behind it.
This month, I’ve been prioritizing drinks that feel like rituals—not just refreshments. Something about stirring, shaking, or muddling something with intention feels grounding. It’s a micro-luxury that reminds me to slow down.

What I’m Wearing
May is all about effortless elegance. Right now I’m living in:
- A white linen jumpsuit that feels like pajamas but photographs like old money
- Classic leather sandals I’ve had for years
- My go-to gold hoops and tortoise sunglasses
Basically: “I might be heading to a board meeting or the beach—can’t say.”
I’ve also started styling from my Coastal Wardrobe Staples list, and let me tell you, it’s making every outfit feel easier.
And because Savannah weather is its own character this time of year, I always keep a lightweight sweater or denim jacket tucked in my tote. Style, but make it practical. It could be 95 out or it could be breezy on the beach.
On My Mind This Month
This month, I’ve been thinking about how soft living isn’t about slowing down—it’s about choosing where to pour your energy. I’m still leading, still building, still hosting… but I’m doing it from a place that feels deeply mine.
I’ve started asking myself daily: Does this feel like softness, or like striving? It’s helping me unlearn hustle culture in real time—and choose things like walking while voice-noting my best friend in Cape May or saying yes to an impromptu Tuesday dinner on the porch.
May feels like a reminder that pleasure isn’t extra—it’s essential.
“Romanticize your life or someone else will sell you their version.”
